The majority of the Irish Traveller community now choose to occupy more modern caravans which are normally situated on established sites. However, the discrimination shown to travelling communities has meant that these sites are often controversial. The attempts to evict residents of the Dale farm site in Essex resulted in violent clashes with the police and the destruction of homes such as the one depicted here.
